Sri Lanka is a visa national country, so you cannot use the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA); you must apply for a visitor visa before you travel. A UK visitor visa is decided on how genuine, clear and well-evidenced your application is.
Standard Visitor Visa fee (up to 6 months), from 8 April 2026.
Most visitors can stay up to 6 months per visit.
Usual decision time after biometrics (about 15 working days).
The UK Standard Visitor Visa is a short-stay visa that lets eligible applicants visit the United Kingdom temporarily. It covers a wide range of visit purposes under a single route, including tourism, visiting family or friends, permitted business activities, private medical treatment, and certain short courses.
Most visitors can stay up to 6 months per visit. If you travel to the UK regularly, you can instead apply for a long-term Standard Visitor Visa, valid for 2, 5, or 10 years, which allows multiple entries, although each individual stay must still not exceed 6 months.
A UK visitor visa does not allow you to work, claim public funds, marry or register a civil partnership, or live in the UK for long periods through frequent or successive visits.
For holidays, sightseeing, leisure travel, and short stays. Common documents include your passport, employment or business documents, bank statements, proof of income, a travel itinerary, accommodation details, evidence of ties to Sri Lanka, and previous travel history where available.
For visiting relatives in the UK. In addition to your own documents, this usually involves an invitation letter from your UK host, the host’s passport or residence document, proof of your relationship, the host’s address, and the host’s employment or financial documents if they are supporting your trip.
For meetings, conferences, seminars, trade fairs, or negotiations. A business visitor cannot take up employment or be paid by a UK source. Documents include business registration, a company profile, an invitation from the UK company or organiser, event registration, business bank statements, and evidence of ongoing business or employment in Sri Lanka.
Some short courses are permitted under the Standard Visitor route, depending on duration and type. Longer courses usually require a separate Student visa. We can help you confirm whether your study is allowed before you apply.
Usually requires additional evidence, including a letter from the UK doctor or clinic, details and estimated cost of treatment, and proof of your ability to pay for treatment and your stay.
The exact documents depend on your circumstances, purpose of travel, employment status, and financial background. Most applications must show strong evidence in these areas.
Valid for the whole of your intended stay, with at least one blank page for the visa.
Tourism, a family visit, a business meeting, a conference, a short course, or medical treatment. A vague purpose is one of the most common reasons for refusal.
Funds for travel, accommodation, food, transport and expenses. There is no single fixed balance; UKVI prefers funds consistent with declared income rather than large unexplained deposits.
Employed: employment letter, salary slips, leave approval, salary deposits. Self-employed: business registration, company documents, business statements, tax records, evidence of trading.
Employment, business ownership, property, family responsibilities, dependent children, education or professional obligations.
Previous travel where you complied with visa conditions can help. A lack of travel history does not automatically lead to refusal.
Itinerary, hotel booking or host address, and planned dates, consistent with your finances and purpose.

Review the refusal letter, identify the exact concerns, correct weak or missing evidence, and provide a stronger, consistent application. The Visa Central can review previous UK refusal cases and guide you where genuinely possible.
UK visa fees are set by the Home Office, are the same for all nationalities, and were last updated on 8 April 2026. General guidance only; always confirm on the official GOV.UK visa fees tool (gov.uk/visa-fees) before you pay.
With long-term visas each stay is still limited to 6 months. Visitors don’t pay the Immigration Health Surcharge but aren’t covered by the NHS, so travel health insurance is strongly recommended. VFS Global charges are separate. All fees are non-refundable.
Standard Visitor applications from outside the UK are generally decided within around 3 weeks (about 15 working days) after biometrics. Where available at the Colombo centre, priority (around 5 working days, approx. £500 extra) and super priority (next working day, approx. £1,000 extra) services may be offered. Availability varies; apply well in advance.
No visa consultant in Sri Lanka, or anywhere else, can guarantee a visa. Any consultancy that promises guaranteed approval should be treated with caution. The final decision always rests with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
What we do promise is professional preparation, clear advice and honest guidance at every step.
